Disc Defender

How Disc Defender Works

Disc Defender is a lost and found notification service for disc golfers. When your disc is returned to a participating business, we text you — so you can get it back fast.

Step 1: Mark Your Disc

Write your name and phone number on the inside rim of your disc using a permanent marker. This is standard disc golf practice and is required under PDGA Rule 813.01, which states all discs used in play must be uniquely marked.

By writing your phone number on your disc, you are indicating that you want to be contacted if your disc is ever found and returned.

Tip: Write clearly and legibly — a smudged number means no call!

Step 2: Someone Finds Your Disc

When a participating business (a disc golf pro shop, course, or retailer) receives a returned disc, they scan or log it into the Disc Defender system.

Step 3: We Call You

Disc Defender staff calls the phone number written on your disc. During the call, we explain the service and ask for your explicit verbal consent to send you SMS notifications about your found disc.

"Hello, this is Disc Defender. We offer a lost and found notification service for disc golfers. As part of our service, we send automated text messages to notify you when your disc is found and returned to a participating business. Message frequency varies, and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time, and reply HELP for assistance. Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are available on our website. Do you consent to receive these automated SMS notifications from Disc Defender?"

No spam. No marketing. Just a quick call to confirm you want the details by text.

Step 4: You Get the Details by Text

Once you give verbal consent, you'll receive a confirmation text:

"You're now opted in for Disc Defender alerts! We'll text you when someone finds your discs. Reply STOP anytime to unsubscribe. Reply HELP for help."

Followed by the return details:

"Disc Defender: Your Discraft Anax disc was returned to Nexus South, 2866 W 47th Ave, KS 66103. Reply HELP for more information."

Step 5: Pick Up Your Disc

Head to the listed business to pick up your disc. Done!

SMS Consent Details

Disc Defender uses a verbal consent process:

  1. Physical indication: You write your phone number on your disc, indicating your intent to be contacted if it's found.
  2. Verbal consent: Disc Defender staff calls you and obtains your explicit verbal consent before sending any SMS messages.

No SMS messages are sent until you have verbally agreed to receive them.
